Carlos Caetano Biscainho Fernandes (A Coruña 1968), PhD in Galician-Portuguese Philology, is a senior lecturer at the Faculty of Philology of the University of A Coruña, where he has coordinated the Degree in Galician and Portuguese: Linguistic and Literary Studies since 2023.

His main areas of research are the philological editing of recovered dramatic texts; the relationship between literature and performance; cultural studies applied to Galician theatre since 1882; the role played by dramatic activity in the Galician cultural renaissance since the late 19th century; and the relationships between the Galician theatre system and its Iberian counterparts or those of Portuguese-speaking countries. In this regard, he has worked on various research projects related to the recovery of Galician theatrical heritage, being the principal investigator of the latest in the series: Recuperación do patrimonio teatral galego 4 (1936-1973): emigración, exilio e resistencia interior.

He is the scientific coordinator of the Francisco Pillado Mayor Library-Archive at the University of A Coruña, where he directs the Blue Series of its publications (Galician Theatre Literature). He also coordinates the Galician Theatre Observatory, created through an agreement between the UDC and the Galician Theatre Academy, of which he has been a member since 2018 (joining its board of directors in 2020).

Author of the monographs Fernando Osorio do Campo. Unha vida sen treguas (2017), Un país desde as táboas. 125 anos de teatro galego (2008), A Escola Dramática Galega na configuración do sistema teatral (2007) and Conformando o brinquedo. Reflexións á volta da preparación do actor (2004), he has also been responsible for editing specialised volumes such as Palcos e(n) ditadura. Perspectivas ibéricas a partir do teatro galego (2025), in collaboration with Diego Rivadulla Costa; Elsinor no Finis Terrae. Estudos transversais sobre eoteatro galego (2022), and Deseñando horizontes. Situación actual, orixe e planificación do futuro do teatro galego (2022), with Carlos Lorenzo, Francisco Oti and Dolores Vilavedra. He has also published critical editions of recovered dramatic texts, as well as two dozen book chapters and numerous articles that have appeared in specialist journals in eight countries in five different languages.

In 2023, he participated as an international collaborator with the Portuguese Agency for Quality in Higher Education (A3ES) in the evaluation of university courses in the field of performing arts.

Curator of exhibitions on theatrical activity in Galicia, in 2016 he was awarded the 21st Ricardo Carvalho Calero Prize for Linguistic Research.

In 2016 he was awarded the XXI Ricardo Carvalho Calero Prize for Linguistic Research. Since 2018 he has been a member of the Galician Theatre Academy.
