Prof. Alva Martínez Teixeiro, a member of ILLA, has just published the article "O Enigma de Qaf, de Alberto Mussa: A Heterodoxa Reinvenção da Tradução na Ficção Brasileira Contemporânea" in issue No. 88 of the journal Iberoamericana. América Latina – España – Portugal.
The article analyzes the representation of the translator and translation in the novel O Enigma de Qaf (2004) by Brazilian writer Alberto Mussa—translated into Arabic in 2015 as لغز القاف. The work is inspired by the author's efforts to translate Poemas suspensos (2006), a collection of poems created in the 6th century by some of the greatest Bedouin poets.
Thus, the article aims to understand how, through a certain mode of self-writing, Mussa’s character creatively translates one of these poems—"Qafiya al-Qaf"—within the novel. The analysis explores various perspectives: the significance of migrant literature, the growing centrality of the translator in fiction, the study of translation-related themes in contemporary literature, and the blurred boundary between authorship and translation.
