Professor Martínez Pereiro, a member of ILLA, will deliver the plenary conference "A 'verdade' do eu no outro futuro: Machado de Assis póstero".
Carlos Paulo Martínez Pereiro will participate as an invited speaker at the IV Congresso Internacional de Literatura Brasileira (COLIBRA), to be held in Salamanca from December 11 to 13, 2024.
The congress, organized by the ‘Centro de Estudios Brasileños’ at the University of Salamanca and the Brazilian Academy of Letters, will feature Martínez Pereiro, an integrated member of ILLA, delivering the keynote lecture titled “A ‘verdade’ do eu no outro futuro: Machado de Assis póstero”.
Within the framework of the relevance and ongoing contemporaneity of Machado de Assis’s mature short fiction, the lecture aims to demonstrate how Machado de Assis (1839–1908) continues to help us understand ourselves better. This will be achieved by analyzing significant exempla from fiction published over more than five decades, including works released in periodicals between 1881 and 1907, or in the collections Papéis Avulsos (1882), Histórias sem Data (1884), Varias Histórias (1886), Páginas Recolhidas (1889), and Relíquias da Casa Velha (1906).
