Starting this June, educational centers have new materials for Galician Language and Literature classes, intended for the 2nd and 4th years of secondary education (ESO) and adapted to the new legislative framework of the LOMCE.
Promoted by the publisher Baía Edicións, this new educational material for the Galician Language and Literature subject is part of a broader educational project covering all levels of compulsory secondary education. According to the implementation schedule established by the LOMCE, textbooks for 1st and 3rd years of compulsory secondary education (ESO) were published in the 2015-2016 school year, while those for 2nd and 4th years of ESO have just been released in 2016.
The new educational material is authored by Xoán López Viñas and Cilha Lourenço Módia, professors at the University of A Coruña and members of the ILLA Group, along with María Vilariño Suárez.
The 4th year ESO book is structured into fifteen units. The first twelve units cover eight content blocks: 1) Reading; 2) Oral Expression; 3) Language and Text; 4) Lexicon; 5) Grammar; 6) Spelling; 7) Language and Society; 8) Skills Reinforcement. The final three units are dedicated to literature.
1) Reading: Texts aligned with students' tastes and interests, featuring literary quality, generic diversity, gender parity among authors, and cross-cutting content.
2) Oral Expression: Practice in various communicative situations (making suggestions, emphasizing an idea, reformulating, etc.).
3) Language and Text: Textual properties and structures addressed through examples from everyday, formal, and informal contexts.
4) Lexicon: Thematic vocabulary with visual support, phraseology, semantic relationships, and word formation.
5) Grammar: Functioning of the language, grammatical categories, and syntax.
6) Spelling: Accentuation, punctuation, and usage of specific letters and words (together or separately).
7) Language and Society: Evolution of the Galician language from 1916 to the present, linguistic diversity, and contact languages.
8) Skills Reinforcement: Strengthening students' skills through diverse texts that integrate various competencies.
