The OTG was established following an agreement between the ILLA Group and the Galician Theatre Academy
To mark the anniversary of the birth of the actor after whom the award is named, on 7 September Luís Iglesia received the 2026 Xosé Manuel Olveira “Pico” Award from the Observatorio do Teatro Galego, at a ceremony held at the Consello da Cultura Galega.
The award, which aims to recognise a professional from the Galician theatre scene for the quality of their spoken Galician, was presented by representatives of the two institutions that signed the agreement establishing the Observatorio do Teatro Galego: Miguel Pernas, president of the Galician Theatre Academy, and Cristina Naya, Vice-Rector for Outreach, Culture and Sport at the University of A Coruña.
