The volume, published by Peter Lang, was edited by Carlos-Caetano Biscainho-Fernandes and Diego Rivadulla Costa, members of ILLA.

Palcos (e)n ditadura is a volume derived from the research project “Recovery of the Theatrical Heritage of Galicia 4” (1936-1973). The book is a compendium of works that review Iberian dramatic historiographies of the mid-twentieth-century dictatorships, with the aim of filling the gaps that are still identifiable.

Thus, specialists in dramatic analysis and the research of the performing arts of the last century focus on the writing and stage practices of that period, both on the peninsula and in exile and emigration. From a comparative Iberian perspective that takes Galician as its starting point, the book brings together research that offers renewed readings of the different peninsular theatrical systems.

The works analyse plays that had not received the critical attention they deserved, deepen studies on theatrical censorship, overcome reductionist views of the profile of certain creators to reclaim the modernity of their practices, and study the archives of exiles, identifying titles and authorships, highlight the relevance of imported theatre during that period or recognise the centrality of playwrights marginalised by the androcentric framework.

In addition to its coordinators, the volume features contributions from Ana Acuña, Sebastiana Fadda, Enric Gallen, Idoia Gereñu, Teresa López, also a member of ILLA, and Diego Sánchez Santos, among others.
