Carlos Paulo Martínez Pereiro was appointed as a member of the Judging Committee for the prestigious “Machado de Assis Novel Prize 2025” by the President of the “National Library Foundation” of the Brazilian Government.
CARLOS PAULO MARTÍNEZ PEREIRO, Professor Emeritus at UDC and member of the ILLA Research Group, has been appointed as a member of the Jury of the “Machado de Assis Novel Prize 2025” by the President of the National Library Foundation of the Brazilian Government (Diário Oficial da União, No. 178, 09/18/2025: https://shre.ink/CJPMdARomance2025).
Professors Márcia Fusaro and Márcia Moreira Pereira also serve on the jury of this prestigious award, one of the most important literary prizes in Brazil, which received 359 novel submissions.
To select the best Brazilian novel published in Portuguese in Brazil between May 1, 2024, and April 30, 2025, the jury evaluates narrative technique, thematic and linguistic originality, and the work’s contribution to national culture.
The three finalist novels and the winner will be announced by November 3, 2025, and published in the DOU by November 27, 2025.

Over the years, the prize has honored novels by such distinguished authors as Alberto Mussa, Ana Maria Machado, Bernardo Carvalho, Cristovão Tezza, Daniel Galera, Evandro Affonso Ferreira, Flávio Moreira da Costa, Idalina Azevedo da Silva, Luciana Hidalgo, Luiz Ruffato, Marcelino Freire, Rubem Fonseca, Sheyla Smanioto, and Verónica Stigger.
