Manuel Ferreiro and Carlos Paulo Martínez Pereiro’s new anthology offers readers a meticulous selection of 210 cantigas de amor (‘songs of love’) from the medieval troubadour period in Galician-Portuguese poetry. Encompassing a range of different authors and subgenres, the collection also includes poems written in hybrid or overlapping styles, such as the so-called ‘bad marriage’ cantigas (cantiga de mal maridada), parodies of the love-themed cantigas de amor and amigo, poems with a humorous or mocking intention, etc.
