Xosé Manuel Sánchez Rei’s study of the prepositional verbal complement in Galician follows the valency theory first formulated by Lucien Tesnière in the 1950s. Tesnière’s syntactical approach allows for a reconceptualisation of the prepositional complement and helps to account for the conflicts at times between it and the other actants required by the verb.
