The objective of Freixeiro Mato’s latest work is to create a descriptive framework for the analysis of expressive meaning in Galician, to bring it into line with existing research methodologies in other cognate languages.

Estilística da lingua galega focuses mainly on texts from contemporary literature, highlighting the importance and value of the linguistic and literary heritage of Galicia and the artistic contribution of its writers. The arduous task of building and crafting a literary language out of the neglected, stigmatised, marginalised ruins of Galician, can only be properly understood and appreciated from inside the perspective of the country.

The book contains a detailed, modern analysis of questions of spelling, phonetics, morphology, syntax, lexicon, semantics, sentence and discourse. Freixeiro Mato’s new work is timely and necessary: the expressive ability of the language is the surest guarantee of its survival and prestige, and the self-esteem of its speakers.
