This new instalment of the Historia da Literatura Galega series, edited by Manuel Ferreiro and Carlos Paulo Martínez Pereiro, is a compendium of 180 cantigas de escarnho e de maldizer (‘songs of scorn and mockery’), 9 tensons, and 13 songpoems from hybrid, non-satirical or lesser genres, together with extracts from the anonymous, late-period poetry treatise, ‘Arte de Trovar’. The collection samples work by all known poets of the genre, with examples of political, moral and literary satire, parodies and caricatures of the love-themed cantigas de amor and amigo.
