Xoán López Viñas’s latest work, Dicionario de afixos e voces afixadas do galego medieval, has recently been published by Revista Galega de Filoloxía as part of its monograph series.

This month sees the publication of new work by the University of A Coruña lecturer and ILLA group researcher, Xoán López Viñas, entitled Dicionario de afixos e voces afixadas do galego medieval, as part of the Revista Galega de Filoloxía monograph series.

The latest volume in the Revista Galega de Filoloxía monograph series (Nº8) is a revised and extended version of the second section of the PhD thesis, A formación de palabras no galego medieval: a afixación, defended by Xoán López Viñas at the University of A Coruña in September 2012.

Dicionario de afixos e voces afixadas do galego medieval is the first synchronic corpus-based dictionary of affixes and their resulting affixed forms in medieval Galician. Unlike a conventional dictionary, López Viñas’s glossary contains only affixed forms, with entries indexed alphabetically by affix rather than ending, and prefaced in each case by a short grammatical and semantic description.

As the first glossary of derivational affixes in Galician, from either a contemporary or past-historical perspective, Dicionario de afixos e voces afixadas do galego medieval represents a welcome new resource for researchers in Galician-Portuguese lexicography.
