Bibliographical exhibition 'Vinte anos do Prestige: as artes contra a marea negra'
November 2022
Library of the Faculty of Philology

The exhibition is organized by the students of the course 'Poesía en lingua galega e portuguesa', lectured by Isaac Lourido, ILLA member.

Since the past November 22nd, the exhibition 'Vinte anos do Prestige: as artes contra a marea negra' can be seen at the Library of the Faculty of Philology. This exhibiton reminds people of the oil tanker disaster and it wants to pay tribute to everyone affected by it and to the mobilized people.

On November 13th 2002, the Prestige was sinking on the Galician coast in the face of the passivity shown by the Xunta de Galicia and Spanish authorities. The sinking caused one of the biggest ecological catastrophes of the Galician history, producing the immediate answer of the Galician people, the Nunca Máis movement. The Galician mourning-stained flag became the symbol of the group, which stood out because of the massive mobilizations on the streets and the artistic demonstrations in different fields (literature, plastic arts, photography).

The exhibtion collects a big part of the bibliographical material that had analysed and condemned the catastrophe, organizing it into five sections: Chronicle and Political Analysis, Ecological Impact, Photography Books, Creation Books and Poetry Books.

Entrance is free. There will be guided tours on November 29th and 30th, at 13:00 h and at 16:00 h, respectively, prior enrolment through the email biblioteca.filoloxia@udc.gal or by telephone 881 011 712.
