About us

ILLA: Research in Galician Language and Literature was formed in 2006 from the merging of two existing research groups – PLG (Galician Language Research) and GUILHADE (Historical Linguistics and Textual Criticism Research) – as well as from the incorporation of several independent researchers.

The research carried out by ILLA is focused on five core areas: Medieval Studies, Theatre Studies, Contemporary Literary Studies, Language and Grammar Standards, and Portuguese Studies.

ILLA is officially recognised by the University of A Coruña as a research group within the area of Galician and Portuguese Language, Literature and Cultural Studies.

External assessment of research quality

ILLA has been ranked as an A Category research group (‘excellence in accordance with international quality standards within its area of expertise’), with a score of 45 out of 50, following an external assessment of all UDC research groups by the National Assessment and Planning Agency (ANEP, Ministry of Economy and Competitivity). The ANEP assessment of research quality at the University of A Coruña is promoted by the Office of the Vice-President for Research and Knowledge Transfer.
